THE JUKE JOINT PIMPS (Ger) 1. DUST MY BROOM |
Raw energy, my friends that’s the secret ingredient for a good alt.blues album! Raw energy, being born as a slave, a lot of misery and of course not to forget long days of field work! On the other hand you might just live in Cologne in Germany, and have the right attitude, a guitar and an old fashioned amp! Mighty Mike & T-Man are not blues men from the first kind. Dressed in white pin stripe suits with red shoes and jewellery, the two Germans blast rough juke joint music for everybody who care to dance or listen to them! A two-man band with drums, harmonica, guitar and a voice that can shatter glass – pretty much all you really need to play good music! The Juke Joints Pimps sound like Elmore James, Howlin’ Wolf, North Mississippi Hill Country Blues and Reverend Charlie Jackson all together and mould under heavy pressure into a a fine example of Alt. Blues. Cover versions on this album like Dust My Broom (Robert Johnson), Rollin and Tumblin’ (Muddy Waters), Money Honey (Jerry McCain) or I can’t be satisfied (another Muddy Waters track) clearly show where their roots can be found. Old masters of blues, pioneers that stretched the original blues sound way beyond the original boundaries! And that is exactly what the Juke Joint Pimps do as well! Both on their self penned tracks or on the covers they bring! Checking out the boundaries of the traditional blues! Although totally not original, it is damn good and thus more then welcome in the collection of every blues lover. Check out tunes like “Wolfman’s Romp”, “Holy Juke Joint Beat” or “Dick Shake” and put your amplifier on maximum for the best result! And if the neighbours complain about the noise, invite them over for a beer and another spin of “Boogie the house Down” Mr Blue Boogie. |
